Center Based-Thematic learning
Center Based-Thematic learning is an instructional method of teaching in which emphasis is given on choosing a specific theme for teaching one or many concepts. Thematic learning is based on the idea that knowledge acquisition is efficient among students when they learn in the context of a coherent and holistic way and when they can associate whatever they learn to their surrounding and real life examples. Thematic instruction seeks to put the cognitive skills such as reading, thinking, memorizing, and writing in the context of a real life situation under the broad aim to allow creative exploration. Here at The Foundation For Learning each classroom is divided into different learning areas or “centers”: dramatic play, sensory, language/writing, fine motor/manipulatives, library, and science/math. Each month there is an overall macro theme such as Nutrition and then each week there is a micro theme that supports the overall macro theme such as: cooking, fruits/veggies, healthy versus unhealthy, and where does food come from.
Parent Communication is an important part of any successful relationship between families and schools. At Foundations For Learning we utilize a variety of different types of communication to ensure that parents are well informed. Every child from infancy through Pre-Kindergarten receives a paper daily sheet with information including: curriculum activities, individual notes about your child’s daily, basic information about nap time, meal time, and bathroom time. In addition to the daily sheets we utilize text messages, health notices, weekly email newsletters, and monthly newsletters. We also utilize social media such as Facebook and Pinterest to help share pictures, curriculum ideas, and information about school events.
Parent Involvement opportunities are part of what make us unique from other programs in our community. One of the best parts about us is that we try to make sure that both children and parents are supported through engaging activities. Each month we feature a family homework project which we use to create books that can then be sent home with different families to enjoy. We also host Friday Parent Late Nights in which the school is open from 6:00pm-9:00pm so that parents can go out for a night on the town. Throughout the year we host many family events: Halloween Festival, Winter Concert, Pre-K Graduation, Alex’s Lemonade Stand, etc…
Qualified Staff are an important part of any successful learning experience. Our staff is made up of qualified individuals that undergo monthly trainings related to the field of early childhood education and program safety. As part of the hiring process each teacher is fingerprinted and must undergo a DCF background check. In addition, all of our staff is trained in First Aid, CPR, and Medication Administration.
We know that it can be difficult finding a child care setting; it’s very important to make sure to find the center that best suits your family’s needs and budget. At Foundations For Learning we recommend that anyone interested in our programs schedule a tour of our facility. All tours are conducted by the Program Director and at least one classroom teacher from classroom that is being toured. Tours can be scheduled Monday through Friday between 8:30am-5:30pm. If you need to schedule tours before 8:30am or after 5:30pm please let us know when you contact us. Click here for a list of questions to ask while on your tour.
